Our Mission
To create a thriving, affordable ice hockey program for girls that provides them with the skills needed to succeed on and off the ice.
We Value Inclusion & Diversity
About Us
Caroline Parks and Rose King are passionate about growing girls ice hockey in Portland, OR. To transform their vision into reality, they began laying the groundwork for the Rose City Hockey Club with the help of friend and teammate, Jessica Duggan. They kicked off the first season in Fall 2013.
Today Caroline and Rose continue to lead the program and plan its future growth. Dozens of women from Portland's adult hockey community volunteer with the Club each weekend. Several hockey parents have also stepped up to coach as well. We're proud of them for being excellent role models and, frankly, darn good hockey players! With their help, Caroline and Rose have created a positive, supportive environment that inspires girls to do their very best on and off the ice!

Current Board of Directors and Past/Present Coaching Staff
Carolyn Goncoe - RCHC BOD President
- Carolyn has enjoyed hockey - from off the ice - since she was a little girl when her dad took her to Hartford Whalers games. When her daughter asked to play at age 4, she signed her up to learn. It took a few years to figure it out as a non-hockey playing parent. When she found RCHC, hockey really clicked for her daughter.
- She has a passion for women supporting other women and girls having found herself the only woman in the room many times in her career in software.
- She started volunteering with RCHC as a locker room monitor. She then served as a team manager and then as Secretary for 2 years.
- She is always happy to chat about navigating hockey as a non-hockey family and is always learning more from the hockey families!
Maggie Mellon - USA Hockey Certified Level 1 Coach & RCHC BOD Treasurer
- Maggie started playing hockey as a teenager in Pittsburgh, PA and continued at Cornell University.
- Over the years, she has taken the ice in many adult hockey leagues and been an avid supporter of RCHC.
- She currently serves on our Board of Directors as Treasurer.
- She also has the fine distinction of being at the table on the very night when the plan to launch an all-girls hockey program -- our club -- was born!
Kate Wiggin - USA Hockey Certified Level 4 Coach, 14U Head Coach
- Coach Kate has 20 years of ice hockey experience in New Jersey, Oregon, and Washington.
- She played NCAA Div III Ice Hockey at St. Lawrence University (an amazing hockey school).
- Doctor Kate (as we call her because, well, she's a doc) is also a member of the Women’s Hockey Leadership Council.
Chelsea Moore - USA Hockey Certified Level 3 Coach & Gear Captain
- In 2010, Chelsea started coaching ASA girls youth softball in California. She has coached a wide range of ages.
- She began coaching an ASA 10U summer-ball team and went on to coach softball at a JV high school in the spring. (Love that she brings so much coaching experience to our program!)
- After moving back home to Portland in 2014, Coach Chelsea caught the hockey bug and hasn't looked back. She plays adult league hockey at WSC and continues to train with Doug Lynch Hockey.
- Chelsea's countless hours as Gear Captain makes possible our policy of free gear for players making hockey more affordable for all.
Courtney Carnes - USA Hockey Certified Level 2 Coach
- She grew up in Maine and, from an early age, her hockey career took off. When she reached Buffalo State College (Div III), she became a Top 10 Leading Scorer there.
- Coach Court played in the inaugural season of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) for the Buffalo Beauts.
- She currently coaches in our girls development program & our regular season. In addition, she is power skating & hockey skills coach in the local area. We're jazzed to have someone of Court's caliber on our coaching staff!
Jess Fedderly - USA Hockey Certified Level 3 Coach
- Coach J-Fed started playing hockey in Minnesota at age 6; she has more than 30 years of hockey experience.
- She was one of five finalists for the 1998 Ms. Hockey Minnesota award, presented to the top Senior high school player in the State.
- Coach J-Fed played NCAA Division I hockey at Princeton University. (Yup, you read that right: Div 1!) At Princeton, she was a 4-year letter-winner in varsity women's ice hockey & named Alternate Captain during her Senior year.
Wendy Fedderly - USA Hockey Certified Level 4 Coach
- Coach Wendy's passion for hockey started with field hockey at age 12. She started playing ice hockey her Junior year of college at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
- To date, she’s been playing women's and co-ed adult ice hockey for close to 30 years. Hockey is a shared family passion! She and her husband play together as a Defensive pair. Her 15 yr old son has been playing hockey since he was 4.
- Wendy has served as a Head Squirt Coach with the former Portland Junior Winterhawks, Head Coach of our Girls House Program, and Head Coach of our inaugural 10U GDP team.
- For 5 years, she coordinated our RCHC scholarship program that helps make hockey more accessible to our young female athletes. (Right on!).
Michael Gettinger - USA Hockey Certified Level 3 Coach
- Coach Mike has been playing hockey for more than 40 years, including stints in high school prep, Jr. AAA, college and as a semi-professional. (Wow! Very cool!)
- He has been working with RCHC players since the Club began in 2013.
- Coach Mike has 3 Rules of Hockey: Keep your stick on the ice; Keep your head up and, as always, rule #1 is have fun!!!
Claire Houx-Schaeffer - USA Hockey Certified Level 4 Coach
- Coach Claire began figure skating at the age of 8. For the next 12 years, she trained as a competitive skater throughout out northern CA and the Bay Area. (Point being, she's an amazing skating teacher for our RCHC players!)
- Over the years, she has served as an Associate Coach for our 10U and 12U GDP teams and coached in all of our House programs.
- Claire has been one of two fearless Gear Captains in RCHC and led various "Try Hockey for Free" events on behalf of RCHC.
- Coach Claire launched an all-girls program in Sacramento. Players then transitioned to play for the Lady Blue Devils and San Jose Lady Sharks (both are strong, winning clubs today!)
- She coached with the Lady Blue Devils for two years (which included 16Us and younger players) before moving to Portland in 2017.
Odie Miller - USA Hockey Certified Level 4 Coach
- Coach Odie has been playing ice hockey for about 25 years.
- She has served as an Associate coach on a number of our GPD teams and is a FORCE at camp (only 1 of 2 other full-time camp coaches).
- She grew up speed skating and playing rugby (which turned out to be great training for hockey).
- Coach Odie would probably win the hardest shot competition if we ever held one ... and we're not joking.
Marissa Powers - USA Hockey Certified Level 4 Coach & former RCHC BOD VP
- Coach Powers grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. She started playing hockey at age 10, and began playing girls' hockey at age 12.
- She played NCAA Division III hockey for Trinity College (and, dang, is she good!)
- Coach Powers has played both men's & women's adult hockey in her home state, Massachusetts, as well as in Pennsylvania and Oregon.
Justin Rock - USA Hockey Certified Level 4 Coach & former RCHC Director of Hockey
- Coach Justin grew up playing hockey in Portland, starting out as a Mite and playing though Midgets in PAHA (Portland Amateur Hockey Association) at Valley Ice Arena (now the Winterhawks Skating Center) from 1980-1994.
- He played Tier hockey representing Oregon in Japan, districts and nationals.
- After college, Justin returned to Portland hockey coaching U14 Bantam & U18 B Teams.
- He was on the board of the Junior Winterhawks for a decade as coaching director and USA Hockey Coaching Coordinator for Portland for five years. Justin was named Head Coach of the Portland State University newly found team in 2007.
- Coach Justin has recently returned to Portland hockey once again and is excited to use his experience to drive player development, organizational growth, and the love of hockey for more female athletes at Rose City Hockey Club.
Ken Webster - former RCHC BOD President
- Ken loves hockey and was ecstatic when his (then) 13 year old daughter decided she wanted to learn to play hockey. He was even more ecstatic to learn that Rose City Hockey existed!
- He’s an attorney by trade and an executive leader at a tax research firm based here in Oregon. He also has experience serving on other Boards of Directors.
- Ken is passionate about growing youth hockey, specifically for female athletes (he has 3 daughters!).
- What you won’t see is Ken out there coaching on the ice – he can barely stand up on skates (please excuse him – he grew up in rural Idaho where the only “rink” was a pond and nobody even knew what hockey was). Ken’s passion for hockey came later in life. He mostly wants to be involved to help grow opportunities for female athletes and shine a spotlight on the best sport on the planet.
Robin Willins - USA Hockey Certified Level 4 Coach
- Coach Robin has been coaching for 25 years and has played hockey for 40 years.
- She has been involved with USA Hockey at the highest levels: Pacific District Girls and Women's Section Rep from 1998-2007, USAH Pacific District Female Player Dev Camp/Try Out Director from 1999-2008, Team Leader National Player Dev Camps in Lake Placid, Colorado Springs, & Rochester from 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004. (Wow.)
- Among other teams, she's coached at the 19U Tier 1 level, a Pacific District Select Showcase team, and both the NW selects 14 and 19U teams.
- Robin was also a registered official in both the US and BC for 10 years.
- As a young woman, Robin was among only 3 girls registered to play hockey in the state of Washington ... who better to help us grow the game for female players!
