Girls development pGM

Girls Development Program

Rose City Hockey Club and the Portland Jr. Winterhawks are working together to grow girls hockey in the 2018-19 season.  On behalf of the Girls Development Program, we're pleased to congratulate all the players who made the team. Check out the rosters for our 10U Team, 12U Team, and 14U Team as well as the overview for their program and 19U players below.

SEASON OVERVIEW

14U, 12U and 10U Teams:

  • Weekly Train Station (40 min per team)- Monday nights. 4:30-6:45pm.

    • When done, they'll walk one block with coaches to the rink.
    • Players will need their helmet, stick and gloves at the Train Station; parens should drop off gear at the rink.
  • Weekly practices (18 weeks) - Monday nights 6:10-7:10pm (shared with PJW Metro) and 7:20-8:20pm (all girls). All ice will be shared and divided equally among the 3 girls dev teams.

  • All players must participate in another hockey program in addition to her girls development team (such as Metro, RCHC, etc).
  • Status: Evaluation skates are now complete & teams have been selected. Registration is closed.

Not sure what a "development program" is exactly?

No worries. Development programs are designed for players who are committed to playing competitively. Such players are often hoping to play college hockey and beyond. In addition, a development program is often a stepping stone between a regular season/house league and a travel team. The former often involves little or no tournament travel while the latter, a travel team, often involves up to 4 tournaments per season.

The new PJW-RCHC girls development program is intended for competitive players with considerable hockey experience. They will need to participate in an evaluation skate to be part of the program (held with independent evaluators from both associations). They will also be required to play in another hockey program (such as RCHC's regular season or PJW's metro league) and do dry-land training.  Ice times will focus on individual skill and team development. RCHC and PJW’s shared goals are to raise the overall level of play, meet developmental needs, foster team play, and support player retention.
